‘Foundations of the Catholic Faith: Theology for Ministry’ is designed to assist Catholic educators in developing a deeper understanding of and appreciation for major themes in the Catholic tradition. Students will gather over Zoom for nine sessions spread across the Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 terms from 6:00-8:30pm (Pacific). The main goal of ‘Foundations’ is to help students cultivate essential theological and pastoral skills for faithful and effective ministry in an increasingly complex and diverse world. Each session will include a lecture that introduces core concepts as well as opportunities for small and larger-group discussions that focus on integrating and applying insights from the course to the practice of ministry. Although there are no required readings, students will have access to a range of online ‘recommended’ readings if they wish to explore a given topic in more detail. The course will be taught primarily by Dr. Nick Olkovich, with some input from other instructors.
