39th Annual Catholic Educators’ Conference

February 14 & 15, 2019

Theme: What Do You Want of Me, Lord?

The Catholic Educators’ Conference (CEC) is held each year to provide an opportunity for the spiritual and professional growth of Catholic educators, for the development of Christian community, and to provide leadership in the development of a dynamic, evangelistic school system.

Some CEC 2019 Highlights

Our two-day conference will once again be held at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre in downtown Vancouver.

DAY ONE will begin with Morning Mass and then an opportunity to listen to our Opening General Session Hallie Lord, in addition to being a wife and mother of eight, is a speaker, host of Hallie Weekly on SiriusXM, co-founder of the Edel Gathering, and author of One the Other Side of Fear: How I Found Peace, a #1 bestseller in its genre. Her writing has appeared in a variety of publications including National Catholic Register, America Magazine, Family Foundations, OSV Newsweekly, Catholic Digest, Faith and Family, and This Rock magazines. Hallie has also been featured on Patheos, Simple Mom, Faith and Family Live, Catholic Exchange, and Fathers for Good.

After a break with a visit to our vendors, attendees can select from among three breakout sessions – which include: Deborah Macnamara, on the faculty at the Neufeld Institute, operates a family counselling practice supporting families and author of Rest, Play, Grow: Making Sense of Preschoolers (or anyone who acts like one); Kevin Honeycutt, the creator of “Artsnacks” learning community and an international speaker on technology, education and cyber-bullying prevention; and Tiffany Poirier – a.k.a the Inquiry Ninja – is a national award-winning teacher, author, speaker, gifted education specialist, and parent who believes that “every child has infinite gifts.” A passionate advocate for inquiry-based learning and philosophy for children (p4c), Tiffany is the author and illustrator of the children’s critical thinking book Q is for Question: An ABC of Philosophy and a TEDxVictoria presenter with her talk on “The Power to Question”.

Our day will end with a Social Hour in our Vendor Area.

DAY TWO, following Morning Prayer, is our 2nd General Session speaker, John O’Leary, who as a curious nine-year-old boy playing with fire and gasoline, created a massive explosion in his home and was burned on 100% of his body. He was given 1% chance to live. John’s first book ON FIRE: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life was an instant #1 National Bestseller. John’s poignant storytelling is a blend of emotion, humor and authenticity. His faith testimony beautifully illustrates the power of prayer and God’s presence during our times of greatest challenge. John considers his greatest success to be his marriage to his wife Beth, their four children and his relationships with friends and family.

Following the break, we will gather once again for our Closing General Session speakers, Bill and Kathy Magee and listen to how they responded to their particular call: “What Do You Want of Me, Lord?”. When Bill and Kathy traveled to the Philippines as medical volunteers in 1982, they had no idea that the trip would change their lives. But when they found they could operate on only 40 children with cleft lips, cleft palates, and other life-altering facial deformities, turning away 250 others, the couple decided to found Operation Smile. Bill, 65, juggles his job as a plastic surgeon with running the organization. Kathy, 64, is a former nurse and social worker but works full time these days for the charity. Now in its 27th year, Operation Smile has helped more than 135,000 children worldwide.

Our Conference will end as we celebrate the Eucharist at our Closing Mass.
